The Phone Camera IR Test — Step by Step
- Open your smartphone camera app
- Point the front tip (IR LED) of your TV remote directly at the camera lens
- Press and hold any button on the remote — try the Power or Volume button
- Look at your phone screen while pressing
What you see — what it means

| White or purple blinking light | Remote is working and sending IR signal | Problem is with TV sensor — clean it or power cycle TV |
| No light at all | Remote is not sending any signal | Replace batteries first. If still no light — remote is dead |

Note for Bluetooth remotes
This test only works for IR (infrared) remotes. Sony Google Voice, Samsung SolarCell, LG Magic Remote, and other Bluetooth remotes also have IR backup — the test still works for basic IR functions. If the IR test passes but smart features fail, the problem is Bluetooth pairing, not the IR LED.
