Universal Ceiling Fan Regulator – 5-Speed Controller for All Ceiling Fan Brands India
Complete Product Overview – Universal Ceiling Fan Regulator 5-Speed
The Universal Ceiling Fan Regulator is a standard non-modular, 5-speed resistor-type fan speed controller designed to work with all major ceiling fan brands in India — Crompton, Orient, Havells, Usha, Bajaj, Anchor, Khaitan, and hundreds of others. At just ₹199, this is India's most affordable universal ceiling fan regulator. The regulator is ISI marked (Indian Standards Institution certified), meets IS 2148 electrical safety standards, and installs in any standard Indian wall switch box with zero modifications. Whether your existing regulator is broken, worn, or simply doesn't work as smoothly as it used to, this universal regulator restores precise 5-speed fan control in under 5 minutes — no electrician required.
Unlike brand-specific or modular regulators (which can cost ₹300-500), this universal regulator is compatible with virtually every traditional ceiling fan in India that uses a standard AC induction motor. The 5-step speed control gives you complete precision from whisper-quiet (25% speed) to full blast, with satisfying tactile click feedback at each step. Perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and commercial spaces where fan speed adjustment is essential.
Key Features Breakdown – Why Choose Universal Ceiling Fan Regulator 5-Speed?
- Universal Compatibility – Works with All Ceiling Fan Brands in India — Unlike brand-specific regulators (Orient, Crompton, Havells, etc.), this universal model works with 95% of ceiling fans manufactured in India. Crompton, Orient, Havells, Usha, Bajaj, Anchor, Khaitan, Superflo — all use the same standard AC induction motor and wiring. One regulator fits all. No need to know your fan brand; if it's a traditional AC induction motor ceiling fan, this regulator works.
- 5-Speed Precise Control – From Whisper-Quiet to Full Blast — Five distinct speed levels (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%) give you granular control. Unlike two-speed or three-speed regulators, the 5-speed version lets you find the exact speed you want. At night, run the fan at 20-40% for sleep comfort. During hot afternoons, blast at 100%. Each speed step has satisfying mechanical click feedback — no guessing where the dial is.
- Non-Modular Standard Design – Fits All Indian Wall Switch Boxes — Most Indian homes use standard single-gang or double-gang wall switch boxes (not Legrand modular). This non-modular regulator screws directly into any standard box with zero modifications. Fits behind standard switch plates. Installation takes under 5 minutes with a screwdriver. For modular (Legrand/Crabtree) switch plates, a separate modular regulator is needed.
- ISI Marked — Meets Indian Electrical Safety Standards — ISI certification (Indian Standards Institution) means this regulator meets IS 2148 safety standards for electrical switches. Undergoes heat, mechanical, and electrical durability testing. No counterfeits; Faritha sources from certified manufacturers only.
- 220–240V AC, 50Hz — Indian Standard Voltage & Frequency — Designed specifically for Indian electrical standards. 220-240V AC at 50Hz (not 110V or 60Hz). Safe for all Indian homes, offices, and commercial spaces. The regulator is thermally protected — if it gets too hot, it automatically cuts power to protect the fan motor.
- Budget Price – ₹199 for Complete Fan Speed Control — At ₹199, this is the most affordable universal ceiling fan regulator in India. Brand-specific regulators: ₹300-500. Modular regulators: ₹250-400. Electronic BLDC controllers: ₹500-2,000+. This universal model gives 95% compatibility at 40% of the price of brand-specific alternatives.
- DIY Installation — No Electrician Fees Required — Requires only a screwdriver. Unscrew the old regulator from the wall box, note the three terminals (L-in, L-out, Neutral), and install the new regulator by connecting the wires to the corresponding terminals on the new unit. Takes 3-5 minutes. If unsure, our WhatsApp team provides free step-by-step guidance with photos.
- Standard Resistor-Type — Proven Technology, Minimal Heat Loss — Uses proven resistor-type speed control (unlike electronic BLDC controllers which are complex). Resistor type means: simple, durable, and minimal electrical noise. The regulator will get warm on low speeds — this is completely normal and safe. Heat dissipation is part of the design.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide – How to Install Universal Ceiling Fan Regulator
- Step 1: Turn Off Power at Main DB Switch** — Before touching any electrical components, locate your home's main distribution box (DB box) or switchboard. Flip the MCB (miniature circuit breaker) that controls the ceiling fan circuit to OFF. Wait 30 seconds to ensure power is fully discharged. Test the old fan switch (flip it on) — it should not work if power is off. Safety first!
- Step 2: Unscrew the Old Regulator from Wall Box** — Using a screwdriver (flathead or Phillips, depending on screw type), unscrew the 2-3 screws holding the old regulator in the wall switch box. Gently pull the regulator out of the wall box. Avoid touching the terminals or wires directly.
- Step 3: Identify the Three Terminals on Old Regulator** — Look at the back of the old regulator. You'll see three terminals labeled (or color-coded): **L-in** (live from MCB/switchboard, typically RED or brown wire), **L-out** (live to fan, typically RED or brown wire), and **Neutral** (N, typically BLUE or black wire). Note which wire goes where. Disconnect the three wires by loosening the terminal screws.
- Step 4: Prepare the New Universal Regulator** — Unpack the new universal regulator. Inspect for any damage during shipping (unlikely from Faritha, but check). The three terminals will be clearly labeled: **L-in**, **L-out**, and **N (Neutral)**. Use a screwdriver to loosen each terminal screw slightly so you can insert the wires easily.
- Step 5: Connect the Wires to New Regulator** — Insert the three wires into the corresponding terminals on the new regulator: (1) Red/brown wire from MCB → L-in terminal (2) Red/brown wire to fan → L-out terminal (3) Blue/black wire → N (Neutral) terminal. Tighten each terminal screw firmly (turn clockwise) to ensure the wires are held securely. Gently tug each wire to confirm they don't pull free.
- Step 6: Insert New Regulator into Wall Box** — Carefully push the new regulator into the wall switch box. Align the screw holes with the mounting holes in the wall box. Screw the 2-3 mounting screws into the wall box to secure the regulator. Ensure the regulator sits flush with the wall (no gaps).
- Step 7: Attach Switch Plate (If Using One)** — If your wall has a decorative switch plate (to match other switches), insert the new regulator through the plate hole and secure it. The switch plate is optional — the regulator can sit directly on the wall box without a plate.
- Step 8: Test on Low Speed** — Turn the MCB back ON at the main DB box. Go back to the regulator. Rotate the dial to position 1 (lowest speed, ~20%). Flip the fan switch on. The fan should start spinning slowly. Hear a mechanical click as the dial moved? Good sign. Slowly rotate the dial to position 5 (highest speed, 100%). The fan should spin faster at each step. All five steps should have distinct speeds.
- Step 9: Listen for Normal Operation** — On low speeds, the regulator will get warm to touch — this is completely normal. You may hear a faint buzzing sound — also normal. If you smell burning or see smoke, IMMEDIATELY turn off the MCB. This indicates a wiring error or overload. Contact us via WhatsApp.
Universal Ceiling Fan Regulator vs Alternatives – Comparison for Indian Homes
Universal Regulator (₹199) vs Brand-Specific Regulator (₹300-500)
Brand-specific regulators (e.g., Crompton fan with Crompton regulator) promise optimized compatibility. In reality, all Indian ceiling fans use the same AC induction motor standard. The universal regulator works identically — saves ₹200-300. Only advantage of brand-specific: cosmetic matching (logo, color). Functionally, identical.
Universal Non-Modular (₹199) vs Modular Regulator (₹300-400)
Modular regulators fit Legrand/Crabtree/Schneider switch plates (common in new buildings). Non-modular fit standard wall boxes (90% of Indian homes). Choose based on your wall box type. If unsure, WhatsApp a photo of your wall box, and we confirm which type fits.
5-Speed Resistor Regulator (₹199) vs Electronic BLDC Controller (₹500-2,000)
BLDC (Brushless DC) controllers are for modern BLDC ceiling fans (quieter, energy-efficient). Traditional AC induction fans need the resistor regulator. Using a BLDC controller on an AC fan damages the fan. Using a resistor regulator on a BLDC fan also damages it. Check your fan: if it has a remote or is very quiet, it's likely BLDC. Most fans in India are still AC induction — this regulator is for you.
Manual 5-Speed Regulator (₹199) vs Remote Control Fan Speed (₹1,500-3,500)
Some new ceiling fans come with built-in remote speed control. For existing fans, adding remote control requires replacing the entire fan (expensive) or installing a separate electronic controller. A manual regulator at ₹199 gives 90% of the convenience at 10% of the cost.

Frequently Asked Questions – Universal Ceiling Fan Regulator
Q: Does this regulator work with BLDC ceiling fans (quiet fans with remote control)?
A: No. BLDC fans have built-in electronic controllers and require a dedicated BLDC remote or controller. Using a standard resistor regulator on a BLDC fan will damage the fan's internal electronics. If your fan is quiet and has a remote, it's BLDC — don't use this regulator. Contact us for the right BLDC controller.
Q: Will this fit my Legrand modular switch plate?
A: No. This is a non-modular regulator for standard Indian wall boxes. Legrand, Crabtree, Schneider switch plates require a dedicated modular regulator. If unsure, WhatsApp a photo of your switch plate, and we confirm the right type for you.
Q: Why does the regulator get warm on low speeds?
A: Completely normal. In a resistor-type regulator, unused electrical energy (at low speeds) is dissipated as heat. On low speeds, the regulator may be warm to touch — this is safe and expected. The regulator is thermally protected — if it gets dangerously hot, it cuts power automatically.
Q: Can I use this regulator with a 1.5kW or 2kW ceiling fan?
A: The regulator is rated up to 400W, which covers most 1.2m–1.5m ceiling fans (typically 60-80W motor). If your fan motor is over 400W (indicated on the fan label), you need a heavy-duty regulator. WhatsApp us the fan wattage, and we recommend the right regulator.
Q: How long will this regulator last?
A: With normal use (2-4 hours per day), expect 5-8 years of reliable service. Heavy commercial use (10+ hours per day) may reduce lifespan to 3-4 years. Proper installation (secure terminal connections) extends lifespan significantly.
Q: Can I install this regulator myself, or do I need an electrician?
A: You can install it yourself in under 5 minutes with just a screwdriver. Most of our customers do DIY installation. If unsure, we provide free WhatsApp guidance with photos and video calls. No electrician fees needed.
Q: What if the regulator doesn't work after installation?
A: We offer a 7-day returns policy for compatibility issues. If the regulator doesn't fit your wall box or doesn't work with your fan, contact us within 7 days, and we'll process a return or exchange free of charge.
Q: Is this regulator the same as the small type fan regulator?
A: No — this is the standard full-size non-modular regulator. A separate 'small type' exists for compact spaces. Standard is suitable for 95% of homes. If your wall box space is tight, check the dimensions or WhatsApp a photo.

The first regulator that got is almost useless for a Crompton 56" fan of ~1985 make.
It does not regulate speed more than 10% in its most minimal setting.
Also, one internal wire was broken which required correction.
"Reliable regulator, works seamlessly with any ceiling fan. Simplifies speed control, a must-have for enhanced comfort."
"Fan regulator is simple yet effective, perfect for all ceiling fans. Easy installation and smooth functionality."
Ordered this fan Regulator and Indane Gas Regulator with Faritha.com. Both fitted well. This regulator works well with my fan.
